Anime Revolution is a brand new anime convention based in Vancouver, Canada that will be held for the first time in 2012. Before Anime Revolution, the one big anime convention we had yearly in Vancouver was Anime Evolution, which disbanded in 2010.
I was, of course, really excited when I learned that we would be having a brand new convention here, that will take place 2 years after the disbanding of Anime Evolution. I was not, however, expecting this kind of pricing...:
Cost of one "standard" table: $150
Cost of one "premium" table (table in higher-traffic areas): $175
Even a weekend pass for regular attendees is $75 at door. All the prices just seem to have inflated.
None of the conventions I've been to in Canada or in the states were anywhere near this expensive. Previous Anime Evolution cost me less than $100 for both a table and badge, even during the year when it was also held at the Vancouver Convention Center (same place as where Anime Revolution is going to be held). I also did some research on bigger cons, like Sakura-Con and Anime North -- a table at Sakura-Con, which had an attendance number of ~19,000 in 2011, cost $100 (+ $45 admission = $145), while a table at Anime North, with an attendance number of ~20,000 in 2011, cost $70 (+ $55 admission = $125). In comparison, Anime Evolution had an attendance number of only ~6,000 in 2010. Add in the factor that there was inactivity in 2011, I really wonder just how many attendees Anime Revolution is expecting... enough to rival Sakura-Con and Anime North? Because their pricing is certainly the higher one...
Should I invest in this convention? :/
